Angion Biomedica Corp

Company: Overview

Founded in 1998 by Itzhak D. Goldberg, M.D., FACR, Angion Biomedica Corp. is a biopharmaceutical company focused on discovery and development of drugs that harness the body’s reparative and regenerative systems toward therapeutic benefit.

Our research efforts are dedicated to provide solutions for diseases relating to tissue and organ injury and fibrosis. Focus areas include:

  • HGF/c-Met signaling pathway which plays a critical role in tissue protection, angiogenesis, and anti-fibrosis.
  • PARP-1 (poly-ADP-ribose polymerase 1) that runs unbridled during ischemic injury.
  • TGFβ1 receptor signaling which is instrumental in initiating degenerative fibrosis.

Our drug discovery and development platform utilizes state-of-the-art, fully-integrated molecular modeling, medicinal chemistry and preclinical biology capabilities to identify and optimize molecular drug candidates with desired in vitro and in vivo activities.  Our efforts have yielded a unique, rich and diverse preclinical pipeline comprising HGF mimetics, PARP inhibitors and TGFβ1 receptor antagonists. Our lead HGF mimetic BB3 is in clinical development for treatment of acute renal failure and prevention of congestive heart failure. An additional therapeutic application for such HGF mimetics is the treatment of liver, renal and pulmonary fibrosis to effectively interrupt pathological collagen deposition, organ remodeling and organ dysfunction. ANG-1170 is in advanced preclinical development for the treatment of acute liver failure. Our small molecule PARP-1 inhibitor ANG-2864 has shown benefit against experimental acute hepatic failure and stroke. ANG-1122 is a TGFβ1 antagonist in early preclinical development for liver and lung fibrosis.

Issued and pending U.S and international patents allow Angion to retain worldwide rights to its proprietary molecules and use for clinical benefit.

Our fully integrated multidisciplinary research and development BioPharma facility is located in Garden City, NY. This state-of-the-art facility accommodates rational drug discovery and early drug development functions.
